I am a lifelong hospitality executive: the former President and C.E.O.of Famous Restaurants, Vice Chairman of the Board of Garcia’s of Scottsdale, Senior Vice President of Sambo’s Restaurants, and Vice President of the Motel Six Corporation. I am a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Business School and the author of QUIT SCHOOL! a motivational manual in fictional short story form. I reside in North Scottsdale and now pursue my third career as a full-time freelance copywriter. My lifetime of business experience and proven skills as a published writer have united to create my final successful career.

After merging my company, Famous Restaurants, with Garcia’s of Scottsdale, I served on the board of Garcia’s as Vice-Chairman.
President and C.E.O., Famous Restaurants, Santa Barbara, CA. 1980-1986
I was both founder and President of Famous Restaurants, a speciality restaurant company located in Southern California and Arizona that operated eight full service restaurants including five Seafood Restaurants, an Italian Restaurant, a Steak House and a French Bakery and Coffee Shop concept that was a predecessor to Starbucks.
Senior Vice President, Sambo’s Restaurants, Santa Barbara, CA. 1978-1980 Sambo’s operated a chain of more than one thousand coffee shops nationwide. In the early 1980′s the chain was sold back to its franchise operators and the remaining assets liquidated on behalf of its bondholders.
Vice President Motel Six Corporation 1976 -1978
Regional Vice President responsible for the operation of fifty motels in the northwest region.
District Manager Ground Round Restaurants 1974- 1976
Responsible for the Metropolitan Boston district for Ground Round Restaurants a division of the Howard Johnson Company.

Since 1964 I have trained and worked successfully in almost every position in the hospitality industry from server to chef to manager to owner to founder to senior executive in large public hotel and restaurant chains. I have conducted management training seminars in effective non-verbal communication for more than 1,500 managers from a large percentage of the Fortune 500 companies.
Senior management positions in large publicly held companies provided me with extensive experience managing complex organizations composed of a wide variety of skilled and unskilled employees.
My written communication skills have been refined by working as a published magazine columnist and the author of a unique book of motivational parables.
I am an accomplished chef having designed and operated six different successful restaurant concepts.
